Frequently asked questions about chartering uniQue

I am planning to charter Unique in Fiji’s winter – how cold will it be?

We have two seasons: warm and even warmer. Our “winter months” are May to November and our “cooler weather” ranges from a sunny and balmy 19° to 29°c which is perfect temperature to escape a real winter from!

When is the best time for a sailing holiday in Fiji?

Fiji offers fantastic year round cruising. Our winter, May to November, is our dry season and exceptional sailing with the prevailing SE tradewinds usually between 15 – 25 knots everyday.

Summer is from December to April with the temperatures ranging from 22° to 33°c and is a stunning time for cruising. The lack of tradewinds provides flat, calm seas and picture perfect conditions. Summer is also our wet and cyclone season.

I am staying at a resort in the Mamanuca’s – can Unique meet me and start our trip from there?

Yes! We can either pick you up or drop you off to your resort in the Mamanuca or Yasawa Island groups.

How far is Unique from the Airport?

You can step out of the airport and step onboard within half an hour. Unique is berthed at Port Denarau Marina a 25 minute drive from Nadi International airport.

How do I get to Fiji?

When you are day dreaming of escaping your office, Fiji may seem like a world away, but getting here is actually easy. Fiji is the hub of the Pacific and Fiji Airways has regular flights from Auckland, Christchurch, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Honolulu, Los Angeles, Vancouver and Hong Kong. Can I charge my iPad, laptop and cameras on uniQue?

uniQue’s electric current is 240 volts AC 50Hz with three-pin power outlets, which are identical to Australia and New Zealand.

Will I be able to connect with the office when I am onboard uniQue?

You can access the internet on uniQue’s wifi available throughout the boat.

The download speeds maybe a little slower than you are used to at home, but fast enough to get you online and connected with your “real world”.

If you need to make phone calls we can organize a local phone for you or you can arrange roaming on your phone

What do I need to pack and bring for my uniQue sailing holiday?

You are coming on a sailing holiday to a tropical paradise, you will spend most days swimming and relaxing. Light summer clothing, hats, swim suits are key, you may want to pack some long pants, tops and light windbreaks as stargazing in the evenings can be cooler.

Remember to bring any personal items such as passports and visas as well as medication. If you are a keen surfer or kite boarder you will definitely want to bring your gear with you.

Softer luggage is ideal for fitting into cabin lockers and is generally more practical on a yacht.

What kind of things can I do on my uniQue sailing holiday?

This will be your holiday – you can be as relaxed or as busy as you want. You can enjoy snorkeling, swimming, sunbathing, tramping, fishing, sailing, beach exploring and relaxing.

Or you can experience some world class scuba diving with operators up the Mamanucas and Yasawas.

If you are a surfer or kite boarder, feel free to bring your boards and try out some of the local spots.

What will my itinerary include and where can we sail?

Your itinerary will be tailored to your interests and wishes and are flexible, however everything is dependent on weather and wind conditions.

Your Captain has in-depth local knowledge about the area whether at sea or ashore.

Can I choose which day of the week I begin and end my yacht charter?

You can start and end your uniQue charter on any day of the week. The usual time for pick up and drop off is 1200 noon however it may be possible to change this time on request if it does not suit your travel arrangements.

What type of food and drinks will be served onboard?

Once you have confirmed a booking, we will send you a preference sheet to complete. The preference sheets are a great chance to let us know about your likes and dislikes. This is critical as where you will be visiting are remote islands with no supermarkets in sight!

Eating and drinking will be a very enjoyable part of your uniQue experience and the more the we know about you the better so we can stock the yacht with all of your favorite things.

I have special dietary requirements – can you accommodate my needs?

Your menus will be created around your individual food preferences and given enough notice we can prepare food for most appetites, tastes and dietary requirements

What if I need to cancel my charter?

The charter agreement you sign when confirming your charter outlines what happens in various circumstances if the charter is cancelled.

We recommend trip insurance to all our guests. Trip or Travel insurance covers your group in case of cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances. This insurance will protect you from any loss of cancellation fees.

What is included in my charter rate?

Your nightly charter rate includes the exclusive charter of uniQue with the services of a Captain and Cook/stewardess, all onboard meals, non alcoholic drinks, fuel, 20% local taxes, village landing fees, airport transfers and wifi.

The charter fee does not include (optional) crew gratuities, rendezvous scuba diving, off yacht excursions, or alcohol.

Can we bring our own alcohol onboard?

Yes! If you drink spirits we recommend you bring your duty free allowance (2.25 litres per person) onboard and we will supply the mixers.

You may find it more convenient to order wine and beer through us so it is chilled and stowed onboard prior to your arrival, or you can bring your own alcohol with you when you arrive.
